Even a little of this product made my curls “crunchy” which isn’t what I wanted. Other curl products are much better.
Most hair gels still leave my hair a frizzy mess. This keeps my curls looking amazing for days without being to crunchy
I have had a lifetime of tears with my hair. Grew up with what we now call "uncombable hair syndrome" and didn't have any way to style my hair into anything until I was in college in the '90s...which...yeah...we know how that ended up 👀 I spent at least 2 decades straightening my damaged hair and went au natural (save for color) a couple of years ago. I struggled to get my hair to curl well because the top layer likes to remain straight and straw like while the bottom has unruly legit curls.
I don't remember HOW I came across Moonstone Seven, but I am so glad I did. I purchased a plop first along with a Hydra Hold just to get to the free shipping and while the plop and I have a complicated relationship (I have a LOT of hair) the Hydra Hold is the unsung hero of my amazing journey to actually LOVING my hair.
The hold is amazing. The cast is perfection. And I don't have to use half a bottle to get results. In fact, I use significantly less than any other brand I have tried for much, much better results. My hair stylist even complimented me on the curl pattern I have been able to resurrect from the dead and the health and softness of my curls and hair.
With the satin overnight plop, I can get my curls to last at least three days before the top layer starts to go back to its straight-hair-gurl tendencies. Every person has different experiences and different needs, but I HIGHLY recommend trying out the Moonstone Seven Hydra Hold to everyone who is looking for a great product to create, maintain and keep their curls.
It leaves my hair very stiff. There is nothing new with this gel, is just like using Cantù gel. Very dissatisfying and disappointed.

Hydra Hold is not formulated like Cantù gel. While both products can create a firm gel cast (which is normal for strong-hold stylers), the base ingredients and performance intent are very different.
Cantù’s formula relies heavily on synthetic film-forming polymers (like PVP) and heavier emollients such as shea butter, which can feel stiff or coating on some hair types.
Hydra Hold, on the other hand, is built around organic aloe, panthenol, jojoba esters, and marshmallow root, paired with a VP/VA copolymer that creates a scrunch-out cast — meaning the firmness is intentional during drying and is meant to be released once hair is fully dry to reveal soft, flexible definition.
If the cast is not scrunched out the hair can feel stiff — especially depending on hair porosity and technique. That doesn’t mean the product failed, but it does mean it may need a different application approach for your hair.

I have been searching for years for a gel that would replicate the Ouidad Climate Control original formula (iykyk about their formula change). I’ve tried so many other gels/mousse/curl creams and nothing gave me the same shine and multi-day hold. I randomly saw a tik tok where this product was recommended, and decided to give it a try. SO happy I did, my curls look AMAZING!! It’s defined, shiny, so soft and very little frizz. I have 3a-3b curls with some 2c sections. I only used this gel with a simple leave in conditioner, and didn’t even have to touch up the next day. I couldn’t be more excited to finally use only 1 gel and get such great results! 10/10 product!!
